"Jalen Brunson made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left after the Knicks had blown a 21-point lead, and New York edged the Brooklyn Nets 124-122 on Friday night to improve to 2-0 in the NBA Cup. Brunson missed a potential game-winning shot in a loss to Chicago on Wednesday but came through when the Knicks needed him this time and finished with 37 points. OG Anunoby added 25 and Mikal Bridges had 22 against his former team before partially blocking Dennis Schroder’s layup attempt on the final possession.

Karl-Anthony Towns shoots free throws in empty MSG after monster night in devastating Knicks loss — and fans ate it up

"Three players — Victor Wembanyama, Karl-Anthony Towns and Giannis Antetokounmpo — scored at least 45 points. Antetokounmpo had the highest total (59 points), and Wembanyama set a career high (50) for the San Antonio Spurs. The three 45-plus-point games tied for the most in a single day in NBA history with seven other instances. March 14, 2022, is the last time it happened when Towns (60), Trae Young (46) and Stephen Curry (47) each dropped more than 45."

The ball looked good as it left Jalen Brunson’s fingers. It sure looked like it was going in as it settled softly on the rim. And from various precincts around Madison Square Garden, there was a premature spasm of glee. From there, it may have looked like the ball went in. The ball didn’t go in. “I thought it was in,” Mikal Bridges said, “and then it wasn’t.” The ball spun out, and when it did, the Knicks had suffered their first heartbreaking loss of the season, a 124-123 gut punch to the Bulls that was intriguing as hell, because across all 48 minutes we were treated to the very best and the very worst of what this team is capable of, especially in this first quadrant of the season.

Josh Hart owns 'inexcusable' foul on Coby White that led to Knicks loss: 'That one is on my shoulders'

"Towns was seen on the Garden floor, shooting around 35-40 free throws long after the final buzzer sounded.  “Not a lot, but I was disappointed in that display of free-throw shooting by me,” Towns said after the game. “I expect to make them all. When you look back at the game, especially when you don’t come out with a win in a tough game like this, you look at everything that you could have done in the mirror.  “If I make a few of those free throws, at least two or three of them, you put your team in a different position.”
